Welcome to Languedoc!

Le Somail (sometimes referred to as Saint-Nazaire-d’Aude) is a small village in Occitanie.  By car it is located approximately 20 minutes from Narbonne and 30 minutes from the Mediterranean, situated on the Canal du Midi with an ancient stone bridge dating back to 1773, the village has several cafés and restaurants, and a floating shop on a beautiful barge. A few metres from the house it is possible to hire boats of various capacities for a few hours or much longer.  The village is very busy with walkers and cyclists most of the year round, and the canal paths also form part of the ‘Camino de Santiago’ pilgrimage trail.

Languedoc, now part of the Occitanie region, is often called “the real south of France” or “Provence without the price tag!”. It stretches along the western Mediterranean coast from the Rhône valley to the Spanish border, and is considered one of France’s most important wine growing areas. It is rich in history, including Nîmes with its superb Roman remains, the famous walled city of Carcassonne, the former Roman provincial capital of Narbonne, and several Cathar Castles and former strongholds.  The climate is warm and sunny almost all year round, boasting a typical 300 days of sunshine per year.
